Billy Coleman Johnson, 84, passed away Monday evening, March 9, 2020, at his residence in Middle Point.

He was born November 28, 1935, in Conyers, Georgia, the son of Benjamin F. and Anna Lillie (Leach) Johnson, who both preceded him in death. On October 5, 1956, he married the former Mildred Jean Hoghe, who died July 18, 2017.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth C. (Sheila) Johnson of Van Wert; two daughters, Kathy (David) Brown of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Keri (John) Wilson of Hartville; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Billy was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Clifford, and Benjamin F. Johnson Jr.; three sisters, Laverne, Elizabeth, and Opal Lou; and a granddaughter, Shannon Johnson Vann.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a member of Middle Point United Methodist Church. Billy retired from Federal Mogul in Van Wert in 1994. He was a member of Middle Point Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 in Van Wert.

Billy enjoyed fishing and playing cards whenever he could with his Federal Mogul buddies at the Sportsman’s Club and spending time with his kids and family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Tim Owens officiating. Burial will follow at King Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered by combined units of VFW Post 5803 and American Legion Post 178, both of Van Wert. 

Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the funeral home.
