Groups make coronavirus adjustments

Van Wert independent

Several area organizations are rescheduling and reorganizing activities to comply with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s ban on large gatherings, as well as to protect senior citizens — the group most vulnerable to the coronavirus — and other vulnerable populations.

The Van Wert County Council on Aging is working closely with local public health officials regarding activities at the Council on Aging Senior Center, 220 Fox Road in Van Wert.

With the senior population being a vulnerable group, the Senior Center will be closed for activities and events, although the Council on Aging will continue to provide transportation and consumer assistance. Those needing consumer assistance are requested to call the Council at 419.238.5011, rather than coming to the center.

Additionally, Monday Night Bingo and Texas Hold ’Em events will also be postponed until further notice.

In response to the current health concern facing the area, and in an effort to do its part to protect those that come out to support the department, Wren Fire & EMS will be postponing its yearly March Pancake & Sausage Breakfast.

This situation is a constantly evolving event, which Fire & EMS members are monitoring closely. The fundraiser breakfast will be rescheduled at a future date.

Vantage’s All Boards dinner has been rescheduled to Thursday, May 7. Social time will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6 that evening.

Van Wert Rotary Club has cancelled its meeting for Tuesday, March 17, due to the governor’s directive concerning gatherings. Meetings will be decided on a weekly basis.
