Health District provides COVID-19 update

VW independent/submitted information

Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Van Wert County as of Thursday, the County General Health District, in conjunction with Van Wert Health, is requesting that those presenting mild and manageable symptoms of COVID-19 stay at home and self-isolate. Those who have questions should reach out to their primary care provider.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. Those who cannot manage their symptoms should contact their primary care provider for further instruction. Van Wert Health North is also available to triage patients requiring care. Patients with increasing shortness of breath should go to the Emergency Room.

Unless someone is having severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, do not go to the Emergency Room. For those who have severe symptoms of COVID-19 and plan to go to the ER, call 419.238.2390 to let the ER know.

Do not go to the Emergency Room requesting to be tested for COVID-19. There are limited test kits available, which are reserved for hospitalized high-risk patients. Local health officials appreciate the cooperation of providers and patients as they work through this challenging situation.
