Donald W. Morris

Donald W. Morris, 93, of Van Wert, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born September 12, 1926, in Washington Township, Van Wert County, the son of Earl L. and Velma M. (Collins) Morris, who both preceded him in death. On April 6, 1947, he married the former Barbara V. Poe, who survives. 

Donald was a lifetime farmer in Van Wert County.

Donald was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert, the United States Trotting Association, the Mercer County Harness Horsemen’s Association, the Van Wert Harness Horsemen’s Association, and the Van Wert County Farm Bureau. 

Donald enjoyed racing harness horses for 25 years in Ohio and Indiana.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara V. (Poe) Morris of Van Wert; two sons, Steven D. (Linda) Morris of Sylvania and Alan L. (Joyce) Morris of Van Wert; a brother, Lloyd E. Morris of Cullman, Alabama; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Stoffel, Amy (Garrett) Sudimack, Laura (Joe) Cramer, Emily (Chris) Hass, and Jessica (Kevin) Peters; and 11 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Landon, and Anna Sudimack, Olivia, Abigail, and Jacob Cramer, Lucas Stoffel, Reagan, and Avery Hass, and Colton and William Peters.

A brother, Harold W. Morris, also preceded him in death.

Because of national health concerns, Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory and the Morris family are following directives outlined by the Ohio Department of Health, limiting attendance to the visitation and funeral service to immediate family only. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County. 

Preferred memorials: Trinity United Methodist Church or Mercer County Harness Horsemen’s Association.
