Optimist Club announces essay winners

The Optimist Club of Van Wert announces the winners of this year’s Optimist Essay Contest, which included the topic: “Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine?”, and thanked all the contestants and schools that participated.

The winners will all receive a certificate of achievement, an Optimist medallion, and the following cash awards: $300 (first place), $150 (second place), and $50 (third place). The recognition ceremony originally scheduled for April 9 will be rescheduled for later this year.

The 2019-2020 Optimist Club of Van Wert Essay Contest winners are: Jamie Burenga, Van Wert High School, first place; Lyrissa Hammons, VWHS, second place; and Tiffany Thompson, Crestview High School, third place.

The Optimist Club of Van Wert sponsors many local youth programs and conducts positive service projects.  The goal of Optimists is to encourage students to bring out the best in themselves and others.
