County recycling services remain halted

VW independent/submitted information

Van Wert County officials remind residents that, due to the threat of the spread of COVID-19, all recycling services at the Van Wert County Solid Waste Management District (SWMD) are postponed until at least April 6.

The action includes curbside recycling, the Recycling Center drive-thru drop off, township drop off, Allen County drop off, and commercial services. On April 6, there will be a re-evaluation to determine further action.

Also, as reluctant as county officials are to send recyclables to the landfill, it was determined to be the best course of action in preventing the spread of the virus at this time. Per the New England Journal of Medicine, the virus can survive on surfaces such as plastic (72 hours) and cardboard (24 hours), which are just two of the main types of materials handled at the SWMD.

The SWMD apologizes for any inconvenience associated with this postponement and asks for county residents’ understanding and patience through this difficult time. For more information, contact 419.238.7767.
