Betty Jane Shook

Betty Jane Shook, 95, of Van Wert, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Van Wert Manor.

She was born December 31, 1924, in Van Wert, the daughter of Fred and Bernadine (Buecker) Tangeman, who both preceded her in death. On June 27, 1947, she married Arthur LeRoy Shook, who died January 28, 2016. She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Anthony F. Tangeman, Dorothy Conrad, and a brother and sister in infancy.

Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karan Ann (James) Ottenweller of Convoy, and a brother, Alfred Tangeman of Van Wert.

She was a 1943 graduate of Van Wert High School and a longtime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, where she had taught Sunday school for 25 years, was active in the Piecemakers quilting group and the Eunice Circle, and was always helping as an usher and greeter and in the church office and kitchen. Betty and Art enjoyed their times of traveling throughout the United States.

Due to the health crisis, private services will be held for the family. Friends and loved ones are invited to share with an online video at cowanfuneralhome.com or on the funeral home’s Facebook page Saturday morning, April 4, after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.
