COLUMBUS – New dates are set for spring sports practices, athletic events and tournaments, should Ohio schools resume classes on Monday, May 4.

In a memo sent to superintendents, principals and athletic administrators, Ohio High School Athletic Association Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass said if schools are back in session, practices will resume on May 4 for baseball, softball, tennis and track and field, and those respective seasons would begin on Saturday, May 9.

Under the restructured format caused by COVID-19, baseball sectional tournaments will begin on May 23, followed by district tournaments the week of June 1, regional tournaments June 11 and 12, and the state tournament June 19-21, a week later than previously scheduled.

Softball sectional tournaments will begin the week of May 30, district tournaments would be played the week of June 8, regional tournaments June 15-20 and the state tournament June 25-27, three weeks later than originally scheduled.

The track and field district tournament is now scheduled to begin June 9, followed by the regional tournament June 17-20, and the state tournament June 26 and 27.

Tennis sectional tournaments are now slated to be played May 30-June 6, followed by district tournaments June 8-13 and the state tournament June 18-20.

In the memo, Snodgrass said all dates are tentative, and he noted if Ohio schools are closed for the remainder of the academic year, all spring sports will be canceled.

He also said if specific sites are shut down by Governor Mike DeWine, all sites would be shut down and a tournament will not be held.
