No spring sports, but coverage to continue

SCOTT TRUXELL/independent sports editor

With high school sports on the shelf until at least this fall, the VW independent is gearing up to offer other local sports coverage to readers.

Officials with ACME and Legion baseball will attempt to play games this summer, so the VW independent will feature stories, recaps and photos of those games, if and when they’re played. Like many others, it’s our hope that at least some games will be played during the summer months.

In the interim, the VW independent will continue to feature the Monday Mailbag and Random Thoughts, and we are adding the “Senior Spotlight” as a way to feature Crestview, Lincolnview and Van Wert student-athletes who had planned to participate in spring sports. You’ll get to know more about those student-athletes, their interests, their future plans and other thoughts.

The VW independent Sports page will also introduce the “Friday Flashback.” The new feature will look back at some of the top moments in Van Wert County high school sports. It’s a feature intended to bring back good memories and we hope you’ll enjoy it.

Various other columns of interest and feature stories will appear as well, as we strive to bring you new and entertaining content each day, Monday through Saturday.

We’ll also keep an eye on how the coronavirus, or COVID-19, may affect fall sports and we’ll keep you up-to-date on any developments that could impact the 2020 fall sports season. Obviously, our hope is fall sports will start on time with no changes, but if changes are necessary, we’ll pass along the information as quickly as possible.

As always, if you have any suggestions or thoughts, feel free to email me at sports@thevwindependent.com.
