SWMD set to resume recycling services

VW independent/submitted information

The Van Wert Solid Waste Management District has announced some recycling program changes.

According to the SWMD, the Recycling Center drive-thru is open now, with normal business days and hours (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.). This is for recyclables only. No special drop-offs, such as televisions, bulbs, paint, etc., as the office is still closed. The library will also be closed. Local residents should also not use the drive-thru if they are sick or feeling unwell.

Curbside pick-up will resume Monday, May 4. The SWMD is asking that county residents only set out as close to a normal week’s worth of recycling as possible each week. Recycling collections workers have been instructed to not work overtime due to budget restraints, so in order to catch up, they will need to pick up recycling gradually. Those who are willing and able can also bring all extra recycling to the drive-thru drop off.

Townships and Allen County drop-offs will resume Friday, May 1.

As always, the SWMD will not collect recycling if there is trash, tissues, toilet paper, gloves, masks, etc., in bins. The SWMD will not collect any plastic bags, while cardboard has to be cut down to 2-by-2 foot sections or smaller.

The SWMD asks that county residents be patient as it will do the best it can regarding this situation. For more information, call 419.238.7767.
