Treece dominates, leads VW over Lima CC

A masterful performance by Owen Treece helped give Van Wert a 5-0 summer baseball win over visiting Lima Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Treece went the distance and struck out 13 Thunderbird batters, while allowing just one hit and one walk. 

Offensively, Kaiden Bates and Ethan Rupert each had two hits, and Turner Witten had two RBIs, while Jacob Place, Treece and Ries Wise each had an RBI.

A third inning single by Place plated TJ Stoller, then a grounder by Treece scored Bates. A two-run single by Witten in the fifth inning allowed Stoller and Bates to score, then Wise doubled in Xavier Okuly in the sixth.

Van Wert (1-1) will host Delphos St. John’s at 6 p.m. tonight.
