New equipment available at VW YMCA

The YMCA of Van Wert County continues to improve the quality of life for many seniors in the Van Wert community. The YMCA prides itself on meeting the needs of everyone in the community, with a special emphasis on the children and seniors who reside in Van Wert.

Over the past three years the YMCA Silver Sneakers program has blossomed into a multilayered program that works with over 30 different insurance companies and 300 registered seniors to provide free access for fitness needs, swimming programs and educational seminars. The YMCA has fully certified instructors and classes are at an all-time high.

With the continued growth, the YMCA recently invested in several new pieces of equipment specific to the needs of seniors including two new treadmills equipped with pulse meters, weight scales and bluetooth tracking. The Silver Sneakers program is set up to allow older adults to come to the facility and stay active while they fellowship with their peers.

“These new treadmills will provide Silver Sneakers members with additional opportunities to exercise on the ground floor with instant access through our 24/7 senior entrance,” YMCA CEO Hugh Kocab said. “We hope that all members will continue to reach their goals through their membership at the Y.”

The YMCA of Van Wert County is partially funded by the Van Wert County Foundation and United Way.
