Cougar, Knight, Lancer girls post wins

Van Wert, Crestview and Lincolnview hit the road on Thursday and all three returned with girls basketball victories.

Van Wert 37 Defiance 35

DEFIANCE — Make it four straight wins for Van Wert, as the Cougars held off stubborn Defiance 37-35 Thursday night.

Van Wert (5-3, 2-1 WBL) scored 10 points in each of the first three quarters and seven in the final period and led 10-8 after the first quarter, 20-18 at halftime and 30-27 after three quarters.

Sofi Houg hit a pair of treys in the opening period and added three baskets in the third quarter. She went on to finish with a game high 15 points, while Carlee Young added 12 points, including two triples in the second quarter.

Kinley Maynard had 11 points to lead Defiance (0-8, 0-3 WBL).

Van Wert will host Delphos St. John’s on Monday.

Crestview 59 Columbus Grove 46

COLUMBUS GROVE — Four Lady Knights finished in double figures and Crestview won a key Northwest Conference battle against Columbus Grove 59-46 on Thursday.

Laci McCoy had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win, while Myia Etzler finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Cali Gregory added 11 points and Ellie Kline tallied 10. In addition, Brynn Putman had nine points and eight rebounds for Crestview (8-0, 3-0 NWC).

Kenzie King led all scorers with 14 points while Brynn Fortman added 12 for Columbus Grove (5-2, 2-1 NWC).

Crestview jumped out to an 18-8 lead after one quarter and led 28-20 at halftime and 43-33 after three quarters. The Lady Knights had a massive rebounding advantage, 37-19, including 13 offensive rebounds.

The Lady Knights will play at Kalida on Saturday.

Lincolnview 45 Lima Central Catholic 36

LIMA — Carsyn Looser had a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Lincolnview enjoyed a 45-36 win at Lima Central Catholic Thursday night. 15 of Looser’s rebounds were on the offensive end.

The Lady Lancers led 14-5 at the end of the first period, then led 23-16 at halftime and 26-23 after three quarters.

Zadria King finished with a game high 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Kendall Bollenbacher had nine points and seven rebounds. Olivia Stolly had 14 points for Lima Central Catholic while Bridget Mulcahy added 10.

Lincolnview (5-3) will return to action Monday at Wayne Trace.
