Organizers pleased with Christmas event

VW independent news/submitted information

The 2021 Convoy Christmas in the Village, held December 3-5, has been deemed a big success.

The Roaring Twenties was the theme for the recent Festival of Trees in downtown Convoy. The event was successful and planning is underway for 2022. Photo provided

Organizers said the event led to smiling faces, reminiscing and plenty of hustle and bustle through the village during those three days.

More than 500 visitors enjoyed The Festival of Trees and its “Roaring Twenties” theme and members reception, shopped at the Kris Kringle Market and the local shops for lots of good food and Christmas gifts. Many of those visitors ate at local restaurants and the Sunday soup and sandwich, took part in wagon rides that traveled along streets in Convoy, and a number of children attended various kids’ activities including a painting project, decorating a Christmas ball, library time and a visit from Santa.

The Convoy Opera House was decorated with more than two dozen trees and wreaths by local businesses, churches, organizations and individuals throughout the Van Wert area, and the Christmas Village Tree, featured over 70 units.

Planning is already underway for next year’s event, scheduled for December 2,3 and 4. Anyone interested in joining a committee and helping with planning, preparing and participating in next year’s event, should contact Vicki Saylor at sayfam@frontier.com.

2021 sponsors were, Ace Hardware, the Crestview Class of 1971, and Shawn and Shawna Putman. Co-sponsors were Larry and Diane Webb, Laudick’s Jewelry, Ron and Fran Neiswander, Van Wert Federal Savings Bank, Gary and Jill Putman, Van Wert Vision, Convoy Business Association and the Village of Convoy Historical Society.
