Karla K. and Rick R. Welch

Grover Hill residents Karla K. Welch, 70, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, and Rick R. Welch, 67, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, both at Van Wert Health.

Karla was born July 4, 1951 in Van Wert, to Lester and Carolyn (Tomlinson) Sherer, who both preceded her in death. Rick was born June 5, 1954 in Paulding to Ersel and Shirley Jean (Mason) Welch, who both preceded her in death. Karla and Rick were married September 1, 1972.

Karla and Rick are survived by their daughter, Dawn (Travis) LaFountain; Karla’s brother, Roger (Vicky) Sherer; Rick’s brother, Doug (Meldy) Welch and sister, Lorna; Rick’s nephew, Jason (Diana) Welch; and grandchildren, Linsey and Caleb LaFountain.

They were also preceded in death by Karla’s brother, Stephen Sherer.

Karla and Rick were members of Haviland Country Chapel United Methodist Church. Karla served as treasurer for the church and was a member of Eastern Star, Van Wert. She was also an avid collector of saguaro cactuses. For 52 years, Karla worked as a dental assistant and office manager for Dr. Eversman, D.D.S., Van Wert. Rick retired in 2018 as a supervisor from Shelly Stone Company – Stoneco, Auglaize Facilities, Oakwood, and was an avid hunter.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland. Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Monday, December 27, at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.
