Van Wert girls win fifth straight game

Sofi Houg and Erin Schaufelberger combined for 40 points and Van Wert cruised by Delphos St. John’s 56-26 on Monday night.

It was the fifth straight victory for Van Wert (6-3) while Delphos St. John’s fell to 0-9.

It was a tight first quarter with Van Wert leading 13-11 at the end of the period, but things changed in the second quarter when the Lady Cougars outscored the Blue Jays 21-3 to grab a 34-14 lead. Houg scored eight of her 24 points in the second period and Schaufelberger tallied eight of her 16 points. Van Wert led 44-21 entering the fourth quarter.

Kyra Welch finished with nine points for Van Wert, while Kierstyn Klaus led Delphos St. John’s with 11 points, including three treys.

Van Wert will play at Delphos Jefferson next Tuesday.
