James Franklin Wiseman

James “Jim” Franklin Wiseman, 84, of Van Wert, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021, at Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.

He was born on April 11, 1937, in Van Wert to Ralph E. and Leota M. Wiseman, who both preceded him in death. He married the love of his life and “brown eyed girl” Margaret A. “Peg” (Brown) Wiseman June 16, 1957, and she survives. Jim and Peg shared 64 years of true love and devotion together.

Besides his wife, Jim is survived by his children; Mark (Kathy) Wiseman, Keith (Penny) Wiseman, and Tammy Wiseman all of Van Wert. He is also survived by grandchildren Bryce, Amber, James, and Amelia (Welker) and great-grandchildren Braylee, Tristan, Eliza, Tracen and Elisabeth.

Jim was a Van Wert High class of 1956 Alumnus. During and after high school, Jim took pride in operating “R.E. Wiseman and Son Mobil Station” at the corner of Main and Sibley streets. He then went on to serve at Aeroquip for 36 years and spent his retirement working at Statewide Ford and Superior Collision.

He was a true servant to God, as he was a longtime member of Calvary Evangelical Church and most recently attended the First Baptist Church of Van Wert. Jim thoroughly enjoyed worshiping his Lord and Savior by praising Him in the church choir. He gave back to the Van Wert community by being a member of the local Jaycees and an advisor for Junior Achievement. Jim had a memorable voice and shared his talent by singing in a barber shop chorus.

Jim enjoyed spending his free time cheering on the Van Wert Cougars, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Cincinnati Bengals. He was also an avid fisherman, a trait he inherited from his father. Jim was highly dedicated to attending his grandchildren’s events, ranging from band concerts to wrestling tournaments. He was recognized as a multi-gallon blood donor, which he took very much pride in.

Family meant a great deal to Jim, as he cherished every family member.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Phyllis A. Turner and Barbara J. Wiseman, as well as brothers-in-law, Don E. Turner, Charles H. Brown, Sam D. Brown, Don L. Baker and Stanley Chapin, a sister-in-law, Martha Baker Chapin, and his in-laws Bill and Gladys Brown will also welcome his heavenly arrival.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, with John Rager officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City. Calling hours will be held between 5- 8 p.m. Monday, December 27, at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.
