Weekend shooting victim identified by PD

The Van Wert Police Department has confirmed the identity of the person who suffered a fatal gunshot wound on Sunday.

The victim has been identified as 13-year-old Kaine Leppard, an eighth grade student at Van Wert Middle School.

Lt. Robert Black said police and EMS were summoned to a home in the 600 block of South Tyler Street at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in response to a gunshot. No other information has been released yet and the incident remains under investigation.
