Cougar boys run to Ehresman Invite title

LIMA – Bolstered by the relay teams, Van Wert took top honors at the 12-team Ehresman Invitational at Bath Stadium on Friday.
The boys’ 4×800 relay team of Gage Wannemacher, Rylan Miller, Gage Springer and Hunter Sherer won with a time of 8:37.74, while the 4×200 team of Keldyn Bill, Nate Phillips, Nate Jackson and Trey Laudick won with a time of 1:33.86.

The 4×400 team (Jackson, Phillips, Ty Jackson, Laudick) edged Shawnee, 3:35.08-3:35.15, while the 4×100 team (Bill, Phillips, Jackson, Jackson) finished second behind Allen East (45.73-46.03).
In addition, Laudick won the 400 meter dash (52.42) and finished second behind Shawnee’s K.J. Upshaw in the 200 meter dash (23.50). Gage Springer placed second in the 800 meter run (2:06.70) and Gage Stemen was the runner-up in the long jump (11-18).
The Cougars won the team title with 110 points, compared to 88.5 for runner-up Shawnee.
The Lady Cougars finished in a 10th place tie with Allen East and were led by Sofi Houg, who finished third in the 100 meter dash (13.48).

Weather permitting, Van Wert is scheduled to host Celina and Crestview on Tuesday.
