Cougars win Ada Invite, girls finish 4th

ADA — Chalk up another invite win for Van Wert.

The Cougars won the 16-team Ada Invitational at Ada War Memorial Park on Saturday, outdistancing runner-up Bluffton 134-116.5. The Lady Cougars (86.5) finished fourth out of 16 teams, behind Spencerville (111), Kenton (101) and Carey (88).

The 4×800 meter relay team of Gage Wannemacher, Trey Laudick, Gage Springer and Hunter Sherer finished first with a time of 8:24.75, as did the 4×200 team of Connor Pratt, Nate Phillips, Nate Jackson and Laudick (1:33.53), and the 4×400 team (Laudick, Jackson, Springer Pratt, 3:31.31).

Individual winners were Logan Dotson (shot put, 47-05.50) Pratt (400 meter dash, 51.76), and Laudick, who edged Phillips in the 200 meter dash 23.34-23.35. In addition, Ty Jackson finished as the runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles (16.44).

The Lady Cougars were paced by the winning 4×200 team of Kendra Deehring, Macy Johnson, Danesha Branson and Sofi Houg (1:50.44) and Houg, who won the 400 meter dash (1:03.69). Deehring finished second in the 100 meter dash (13.17), Houg was the runner-up in the 200 meter dash (27.42) and the 4×400 team of Johnson, Deehring, Branson and Houg finished second (4:27.31).

Van Wert is scheduled to host the Western Buckeye League track meet on Wednesday and Friday.
