Van Wert Civic Theatre has announced their Summer 2022 Youth Theatre shows and audition dates

Directors Emily Gehle, Alyssa Taylor, and Griffen Waltmire will hold auditions by appointment for “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr” from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, May 15, and Monday, May 16. Any youth ages 5-18 may schedule an audition either night. The show features those familiar songs like “Under the Sea ” and characters such as Ariel and Flounder.

Most rehearsals will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays at the theater, and performances are scheduled for June 23, 24, 25, and 26. Tickets will go on sale to the public June 20.

The second opportunity for young people to get on stage is the play “Hey Diddle Diddle: The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon.” Director Monica Campbell will hold auditions by appointment Sunday, June 19 and Monday, June 20, and performances will be July 30, 31 and August 1.

A cat plays the fiddle; the cow jumps over the moon while the little dog laughs; and the dish runs away with the spoon…but then what? A group of storytellers are challenged to continue the story of the dish and the spoon from Hey Diddle Diddle. The tales that they spin find the dish and spoon fleeing from the Abominable Snowman, encountering the witch from Hansel and Gretel, becoming spies, and even fighting bad sushi. All ages will love watching this funny play.

Young people ages 6 – 18 are invited to audition. There are a variety of roles available both speaking and nonspeaking. Rehearsals will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays at the theatre. Technical and dress rehearsals are scheduled for July 24 – 28.
