Ronald Herbert Lowe

Ronald Herbert Lowe passed away at 3:14 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2023, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

He was born December 29, 1936, in Decatur, Indiana, the son of  Ralph H. Fugate and Alice Marie (Oechsle) Rickard, who both preceded him in death. He married the love of his life, Frances I. (Hile) in 1968. Together, they shared many years of memories. She preceded him in death one month before their 41st wedding anniversary.

Ron spent his early years in Wren and was a 1954 graduate of Van Wert High School. He served in the Army National Guard.

He worked hard supporting his family, having worked at the Presserette Cleaners, Turner Music, and Max-a-Rama Lanes in Van Wert, and he retired from Federal Mogul/National Seal in Van Wert after nearly 40 years as a press checker and mold operator.

Ron enjoyed fishing and watching baseball and football, especially the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Most importantly, he loved attending and supporting all of his grandchildren’s school activities, 4-H, Boy Scouts, and church activities.

Surviving are two daughters, Pamela (Robert) Switzer of Convoy, and Donna Thomas of Vandalia; a son, Ronald (Jana) Lowe II of Van Wert; six grandchildren, Joshua (Paitten) Brown of Van Wert; Ashton and Cordell Thomas of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Cody Thomas currently serving in the U.S. Army in Germany; and Hunter and Dakota Lowe of Van Wert; three great-grandchildren, Raphael and Khaleesi Brown and Xayden Rose (Thomas); a brother, Arnold (Jennifer) Fugate of Hudson, Florida; a sister, Karna (Joe) Heck of Columbia City, Indiana, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his adoptive father, Harold Lowe; step-parents, Helen Fugate and Doyt Rickard; two grandchildren, Bailey and Xander Lowe, and his beloved dog, Shiloh.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Liberty Baptist Church in Van Wert.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials: the Van Wert County Fair or the Van Wert Humane Society.
