Mickey P. “Mick” Geesey

Mickey P. “Mick” Geesey, 80, passed away Sunday morning, October 22, 2023, at his residence in Van Wert.

He was born on April 21, 1943, in Bobo, Indiana, the son of Russell C. and Margrett J. (Handel) Geesey, who both preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Schreiner) Geesey, whom he married on February 4,1967, in St Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel.

Other family members include his two daughters, Jacqueline A. (Gregory) Gerber of Port Clinton, and Jeannette M. (David) Richards of Morpeth, England; four grandchildren, Concetta “Jetta” A. Gerber, Caleb D. Gerber, Quinn A. Richards, and Iliana M. Richards, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Mick was preceded in death by a sister, Joiva Brodbeck, and two brothers, James E. Hyitt and Donald W. Geesey.

Mick was a 1961 graduate of Crestview High School where he played baseball and basketball. He retired from B. F. Goodrich in Woodburn, Indiana, then he worked at the Marsh Grocery Store, the Niswonger Performing Arts Center, and volunteered at the Van Wert County Hospital. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 6034, and Van Wert Elks #1197. He was a great lover of all types of music. A kind and generous man, Mick loved people. He loved to sit and shoot the breeze with everyone who was his friend, and that was pretty much everyone he met. Mick’s biggest success in life was cherishing and being cherished by his entire family.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 30, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Van Wert, with Father Chris Bohnsack officiating. There will be calling hours 1-4 p.m., Sunday, October 29, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert. Burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
