Area enjoys low unemployment rates

COLUMBUS — Once again, Van Wert County fared well on the state’s latest unemployment report.

Data released on Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services shows Van Wert County was tied with Union County for the state’s seventh lowest unemployment, 2.8 percent, in September. It was 3.2 percent in August.

Wyandot and Mercer counties tied for Ohio’s lowest employment rate last month, 2.4 percent. Putnam County was tied for third lowest with Holmes County, 2.5 percent, and Auglaize and Wayne counties tied for fifth lowest at 2.7 percent.

Paulding County’s September unemployment rate was 3.1 percent, while Allen County’s was 3.5 percent.

Jefferson County had the state’s highest jobless rate, 5.2 percent.

Ohio’s overall unemployment rate was 3.4 percent.
