Grapplers compete at Lincolnview Invite

Crestview finished second behind team champion Columbus Grove and Lincolnview was fourth at the Lincolnview Invitational, held Saturday at Lincolnview High School. In addition, a split squad Van Wert Cougar team finished sixth in the team standings.

The Knights had one second place finisher – Levi Grace, who was the runner-up at 150 pounds and finished 4-1 on the day after falling via pin (3:43) in the finals to Ada’s Clayton McClain. Crestview also had a pair of third place finishers, Gavin Grubb at 126 and Evan Walls at 215.

“Six of our 10 varsity wrestlers walked out with four wins today,” Crestview head coach Jake Sawmiller said. “Although we have a lot to improve on, I’m very happy with these kids and the heart they poured out onto the mat today.”

Lincolnview’s Cody Ricker was the champion at 144 pounds. He earned the title with a 43 second pin of Ada’s Liam Vierra in the finals. The Lancers also had a pair of second place finishers – Joey Sawyer, who lost an 11-3 major decision to Boat Thompson of Columbus Grove in the 138 pound finals, and Adan Quintero, who was pinned by Van Wert’s Easton Lane (1:13) in the 285 pound finals. Alex Hefner (175) logged a third place finish for Lincolnview.

Along with Lane’s first place finish, Van Wert’s Joaquin Estrada was second at 120 pounds after losing to Hicksville’s Braeden Dix (pin, 44 seconds) in the finals.

Columbus Grove won the team title with 247.5 points, while Crestview tallied 181 points. Parkway was third (171.5), followed by Lincolnview (153), Tinora (143.5), Van Wert (125), Hicksville (106), Ada (101.5), Van Buren (100), Antwerp (98.5) and Spencerville (97.5).
