VW’s Houg wins two sectional titles

DEFIANCE — Sam Houg finished as Division II sectional champion in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle and has moved on to district swimming competition.

Houg won the 100 yard freestyle in 50:31 and the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.66, nearly four seconds better than the second place finisher (Malachi Reeder, Wauseon, 1:55.56). Robbie Gamble finished third in the boys 50 yard freestyle (23.70) and and sixth in the 100 yard freestyle (53.18) and moved on to district competition, as did Drew Laudick, who finished sixth in the 100 yard back (1:03.67) and eighth in the 50 yard freestyle (24.47).

In addition, the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams of Houg, Owen Scott, Laudick and Gamble added to the Bowling Green district. The 200 yard relay team finished third (1:35.61) and the 400 yard relay team was fourth (3:38.11).

The girls 400 yard freestyle relay team of Liv Ashbaugh, Katie Kramer, Lilie Mull and Haley Chiles also advanced to Friday’s Bowling Green district (eighth, 4:15.41). Chiles also moved on in the 200 yard freestyle (seventh, 2:13.20) and the 100 yard freestyle (10th, 1:00.16).

Ottawa-Glandorf was crowned as sectional champion and Wauseon was the runner-up. Van Wert finished seventh out of 13 teams. Ottawa-Glandorf also captured the girls sectional title and Bryan was second. The Lady Cougars finished ninth out of 16 teams.
