Randon Thoughts: congratulations, more

SCOTT TRUXELL/independent editor

The latest installment of Random Thoughts centers around some amazing feats, new hoops divisions, and the 2024 NFL schedule.

Congratulations

Congratulations go out to Van Wert sprinter Kendra Deehring, who set a school record and a WBL record with her time of 12.20 in the 100 meter dash last Friday.

Congratulations go out as well to another Cougar sprinter, Macy Johnson, who set the school record in the 200 meter dash (25.41) at the WBL meet on Friday.

Congratulations to the Lincolnview baseball team for capturing yet another NWC title. If you’re not keeping track, that’s four consecutive conference baseball titles for the Lancers, a very impressive feat in any sport.

Lancer baseball

It’s difficult to win one title, twice as difficult to win two straight, rare to win three straight and even more rare to win four consecutive titles.

If you haven’t heard, the current seniors on the team have never lost a Northwest Conference game. That’s right, Lincolnview is 32-0 in the NWC over the past four seasons. What’s even more impressive is the fact that there have a number of quality teams in the conference during that span. In other words, it’s happened in a strong conference.

Hoops divisions

There were no real surprises in the recently announced new divisional alignments for girls’ and boys’ basketball.

Van Wert is in Division IV for both, and Crestview and Lincolnview are in Division VI for both.

Defending Division IV state champion Richmond Heights will be in Division V this fall, unless the Spartans opt to move up. OHSAA member schools may opt to move up to Division I if Referendum Issue 1B passes. Results of the referendum voting will be announced this Thursday. Any changes to divisional assignments or tournament representation as a result of schools opting up to Division I will be announced by the OHSAA at a later date.

Moving up

This is just my opinion, but why in the world would any team willingly want to move up to Division I? What am I missing here?

NFL schedule

I’m trying not to be smarmy here, but is there a longer, more drawn out process than the NFL schedule release? We’ve been teased with the release of a few games and the full schedule release is set for tomorrow, which I’m sure will be a 2-3 hour special on the NFL Network. Personally, just let me know what the schedule is for my favorite team (the Cleveland Browns) and I’m good.
