Dena L. Shartzer

Dena L. Shartzer, 64, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, at her home in Haviland. 

Dena was born on December 4, 1960, in Xenia, to Charles and Elva JoAnne (Halter) Ferguson, who both preceded her in death. On April 24, 1979, she married Donald Shartzer. They moved to Haviland and resided there for the last 32 years.

She most recently attended Bible Baptist Church in Grover Hill. She loved garage sales and thrifting, always on the hunt for a good bargain. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren and her family. 

Dena will be lovingly missed by her husband, Don Shartzer; sons, Ross (Annie) Shartzer of Van Wert, Nathan (Tina) Shartzer, Bryan, OH; Travis (Libby) Shartzer, Van Wert, OH; Ryan Shartzer of Paulding, and Donald “Sam” (Kelly) Shartzer, Jr. of Botkins; daughter, Megan (Jason) Thrasher, of Briceton; brothers, Joseph (Shanda) Ferguson, Dupont, Charles (Jeri) Ferguson of Defiance, Journey Farris of the Philippines, and Patrick Ferguson of Ohio; stepsisters, Barb (Steve) Landers of Grover Hill, Karen Bidlack of Cecil, and Arlene Gilbert of Van Wert; 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Rev. Pat Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Creek Cemetery, Blue Creek Township. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
