Boys basketball
Van Wert 67 Bryan 44
BRYAN — Van Wert exploded for 31 points in the third quarter and the Cougars went on to defeat Bryan 67-44 on Saturday.
Already leading 30-11 at halftime, Van Wert received 10 points from Griffin McCracken and eight points from Xavier Kelly in the third period, and the Cougars stretched their lead to 61-30 by the end of the quarter. McCracken went on to finish with a game high 17 points, while Kelly and Keaten Welch each added 10 points for Van Wert. Cohen Bragg chipped in with nine points, Caden Collins had eight points, including six in the second quarter, and Zach Crummey finished with seven points. Bryan (4-9) was led in scoring by Bryce Welling, who finished with 16 points.
The Cougars (11-3) have won eight of their last nine games and will travel to Wapakoneta on Friday in a matchup of two teams tied for first in the Western Buckeye League. Van Wert will then host Coldwater on Saturday.
Lincolnview 70 Antwerp 48
ANTWERP — Lincolnview trailed Antwerp 28-26 at halftime but the Lancers outscored the Archers 44-20 in the second half for a 70-48 win on Saturday.
Chayse Overholt accounted for 13 of Van Wert’s 20 third quarter points, including three treys, and went on to finish with 18 points. Freshman Marshall Hammons took over in the fourth quarter and scored 13 of his game high 22 points in the period. Hammons also pulled down eight rebounds. Max Hammons added 12 points for Lincolnview (12-2). Antwerp was led in scoring by Zaine McMichael, who finished with 19 points.
Lincolnview led 14-10 after one quarter, with Gavin Evans scoring all six of his points in the period. However, the Archers outscored the Lancers 18-12 in the second period, with McMichael and Brayden Fuller each scoring six points.
The Lancers will play at home twice this weekend, hosting Bluffton on Friday, then Parkway on Saturday. Antwerp (3-11) will also be home twice, with games against Fairview and Patrick Henry Friday and Saturday.
Girls basketball
Lincolnview 61 Hicksville 50
Lincolnview scored a season high 61 points and the Lancers defeated visiting Hicksville 61-50 on Saturday.
Destiny Breese and Annabel Horstman each scored 18 points, while Kassidy Hammons added 11 points. Keira Breese had seven points and nine assists.
“I thought we did a great job offensively,” Lincolnview head coach Kyle Williams said. “The girls made the right reads and took great shots. It’s great seeing the ball go down like that. Annabel Horstman stepped up huge for us with 18 off the bench for us.”
Lincolnview (7-9) will travel to Bluffton on Thursday.
Bowling
Lancers sweep LCC
At Olympic Lanes on Saturday, Lincolnview swept Lima Central Catholic, with the boys recording a 2644-1718 victory and the girls winning 2088-1732.
Pacey Early led all bowlers with a fine 222-228-450 series, followed by Grayden Clay (200-167-367), Owen Dannenfelser (160-204-364), Zach Newell (175-138-313), Aaron Garay (161) and Logan Block (133). High man for the Thunderbirds was Mark Kratts (152-158-310).
Lincolnview’s Aubrey Ricker led the girls’ team with a 136-185-321 series, followed by Abby Dannenfelser (169-130-299), Hadley Goins (146-132-278), Gwen Goins (139), and Lilly Holdgreve and Riley Brown (124 each).
