VWPD examination set for hiring officers

The Van Wert Civil Service Commission will hold a competitive examination to create an eligibility list for the appointment of two officers to the Van Wert Police Department.

The examination will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16, in the First Federal Lecture Hall of the Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio, 10700 State Route 118 in Van Wert. Doors will open at 8 that morning.

Anyone wanting to take the test must file an application with the VWPD at the Municipal Building, 515 E. Main St. in Van Wert, on or before 4 p.m. Monday, May 21.

Application packets are available at the VWPD dispatch center in Room 116, on the first floor of the Municipal Building.

Those applying for either of the two positions must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age by the date of the examination.
  • Less than 35 years old on the date of the examination (applicants cannot be appointed to a position on or after their 35th birthday).
  • Be an American citizen or possess a valid permanent resident card.
  • Be a high school graduate or have earned a General Educational Development (GED) certification.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
