Off Stage sets auditions for fall show

Off Stage Productions is gearing up for its annual fall show, The Foreigner by Larry Shue, scheduled to open September 23.

Open auditions for the show will be held on Sunday, July 24, and Tuesday, July 26, at 7 p.m. Auditions will take place at the Van Wert Senior Center on Fox Road in Van Wert.

The scene is a fishing lodge in rural Georgia often visited by “Froggy” LeSeuer, a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base. This time “Froggy” has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie, who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers.  So “Froggy”, before departing, tells all assembled that Charlie is from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. Once alone the fun really begins, as Charlie overhears more than he should — the evil plans of a sinister, two-faced minister and his redneck associate; the fact that the minister’s pretty fiancée is pregnant; the many other damaging revelations made with the thought that Charlie doesn’t understand a word being said.  That he does, fuels the nonstop hilarity of the play and sets up the widely funny climax in which things go uproariously awry for the “bad guys”, and the “good guys” emerge triumphant.

Off Stage Productions Inc. is a non-profit organization that strives to provide a quality dinner theatre experience for the community.  The theatre company is solely run on the support and hard work of volunteers. Volunteers are needed for every aspect of this upcoming show, including acting, walk-on roles, props, set building and much more.  This show calls for a cast of five males, two females, and numerous walk-on roles with no lines.  Come one, come all.  This is a chance to be on stage without having to remember lines.  All ages and experience levels are invited to audition.  No prior experience is required.  Off Stage prides itself on its open spirit of learning.  No matter what previous experience those auditioning have, teaching theatre technique is at the top of the list of goals for its volunteers.
