VW independent/submitted information

The Van Wert Police Department has released more information on its investigation into the suspicious death of an infant that occurred last week.

According to information released on Tuesday, the VWPD received a 9-1-1 call at 3:21 p.m. Monday, June 28, stating that an infant was not breathing. The dispatcher provided CPR instructions to the caller until officers arrived to conduct resuscitation efforts. A Van Wert Fire Department EMS squad also arrived soon after and transported the infant to the emergency room of Van Wert Health. Unfortunately, the infant did not survive.

The Van Wert Detective Bureau was later called to the scene to begin an investigation to determine what happened that day. An agent from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation was also called for scene processing.

An investigation that also includes Van Wert County Prosecutor Eva Yarger and the Van Wert County Department of Job and Family Services is still ongoing, with some medical reports still not received in the case.

An update is expected once the investigation is completed.
