James H. Barnhart Sr.

James H. Barnhart Sr., 68, of Van Wert, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born June 12, 1943, in Van Wert County, the son of the late Allie E. Sr. and Thelma Opal (Leonard) Barnhart. He married Carol (Butler) Barnhart, who survives in Van Wert.

Other survivors include three children, James H. (Susan) Barnhart Jr., Rhonda A. (David) Davis and Joseph A. (Danielle) Barnhart, all of Van Wert; a brother, William (Evelyn) Barnhart of Van Wert; five sisters, Betty Jewel, Ellen (Ed) Grimes, Janet (Don) Risley and Karen (Dennis) Stout, all of Van Wert, and Rosalie (Art) Miller of Defiance; and eight grandchildren.

Four brothers, Allie Barnhart Jr., Bobby Barnhart, Delbert Barnhart and Harrell Barnhart; and three sisters, Ceola Fern Shindeldecker, Arbadella Coressel and Loretta Rader, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Wednesday, July 20, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with Vince Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, and from 11 a.m.-noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
