The temperature officially hit 100 degrees today at 4:15 p.m. with a heat index of 108, according to Van Wert County Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy.
“This is the first time temperatures have risen over 100 degrees in Van Wert County since July 30, 1999, when a temperature of 102 was recorded,” McCoy noted, adding that the hottest temperature ever recorded was 110 back in 1936.
“The heat wave continues across the United States and has been impacting our area a little bit more each day,” he said. “We will see several more hot days into the weekend, with a chance of storms on Friday and Sunday, then a weak cold front drops temperatures back into the upper 80s by Monday, with less humidity expected for the first half of the week.”
Indications are that the upper ridge will build back into the area from the Southern states by next Thursday, returning the area to the excessive heat and humidity conditions experienced this week.
