United Way campaign kicks off this week

Lorie Garwood, campaign chair for this year’s United Way campaign said she hopes area residents have their calendars marked for this Friday, August 12, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., to attend the campaign kick-off in downtown Van Wert.

“We will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the courthouse with a balloon launch and presentation,” Garwood said. “You can then go up and down the streets where you will find different fun things to do at different businesses.”

Activities include giveaways, food, and reading in the park, a murder mystery, a scavenger hunt, frog jumping contest, demonstrations, tours, and many other things to do.

“I want the participating businesses to know we appreciate their promotion of the United Way by being involved for the day, and that people realize what we have in our downtown area that makes Van Wert unique,” Garwood noted, adding that a map of locations and activities will be handed out on Friday to guide people.
