Trucker hurt in rollover

The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated a minor injury crash that occurred early Monday morning on U.S. 30, just east of Marsh Road. Troopers reported that a 1994 Kenworth truck cab pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with steel coil was eastbound on U.S. 30 when the driver, Carl L. Manley, 50, of Cedar Lake, Ind., lost control of the vehicle while adjusting a GPS device. The truck went off the right side of the highway and overturned, trapping Manley in the vehicle for nearly an hour as Middle Point Fire & EMS Department worked to free him from the wreckage. Samaritan Life Flight was also called to the scene as a precaution, due to the severity of the crash and the fact that it was unknown just how extensive Manley’s injuries were. After the truck driver was freed from the wreckage, he was taken to Van Wert County Hospital by Middle Point EMS, where he was treated and released. The Van Wert County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene. (Dave Mosier/Van Wert independent)
