Cougar golfers 10th at area golf tourney

Van Wert independent sports

On the 11th hole at Country Acres, junior Tyler Turnwald scored his first hole in one with a 170-yard 7 iron.

“Some people go an entire lifetime playing good golf and don’t get to experience the thrill of an ace,” according to Van Wert Golf Coach Jeff Hood.

Turnwald’s teammate, Jacob Brake, shot 77 with a even par 36 on the front side of a challenging layout. Freshman Brandon Hernandez continued to show promise firing an 86. Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars were Adam Jurczyk and Vince Moreland, who both shot a 95.

Van Wert’s team score of 340 put the Cougs in the middle of the pack (10th place out of 20 teams competing.)

“Our line-up was a little inexperienced today,” Coach Hood noted. “We did not compete as well as we would have liked but we have a bunch of golf yet to play.”

The Cougars return to action Friday at Fox’s Den in Celina.
