Marie Bernice (Miller) Clum

Marie Bernice (Miller) Clum, 81, went to be with our Lord on August 17, 2011, after a three-month illness. She had been a resident of Tequesta Terrace Assisted Living in Tequesta, Fla., since January 2010.

She was born May 26, 1930, in Monroe, Mich., the daughter of the late Lawrence and Norma (Culot) Miller. On June 17, 1950, in St. Mary’s Church in Monroe, she married Rudolph Clum, who preceded her in death in 2009.

Marie is a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School and worked at The First National Bank of Monroe from 1947 to 1954, when she then devoted the rest of her life to homemaking and mothering three children. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, reading and sewing. Her most favorite hobby was shopping. She had been a member of the Garden Club, Stone Oak Country Club and the Salesians Catholic Club. After the death of her husband, she moved to Florida and was actively involved in many family activities over the past 19 years. “Grand-maw-maw” especially enjoyed her youngest great-granddaughter, her “Puddin’ Pie.”

Survivors include three children, Susan (Greg) Beckman of Jupiter, Fla., Kevin Clum of Sylvania and Sharon (Ken) Shaw of Redmond, Wash.; four grandchildren, Amy (Rob) Pohorence of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Wendy (Josh) Hackler of Tequesta, Fla., Karl Clum of Florida and Damian Clum of Adrian, Mich.; and three great-grandchildren, Brittany Watson and Spencer and Marissa Hackler of Tequesta. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, William Goodnough of Sylvania; and a lifelong childhood best friend, Suzanne Kurczewski Dial of Toledo.

An identical twin sister, Maureen Goodnough, also preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Toledo. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Toledo.

Calling hours are from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 12:15 that afternoon, at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., in Toledo.
