Defiance wins golf battle of unbeatens

DEFIANCE – The Van Wert varsity golf team traveled to Eagle Rock Golf Course Monday for a battle of Western Buckeye League unbeatens. Unfortunately, Defiance made up a whopping 11 strokes on the Cougars on the final hole to pull ahead, 162-168, for the win.

“Our guys seemed very intent on competing and seemed to have the match in hand; however, we played a short par 4 hole (No. 9) 11 strokes over par, while Defiance played it even par,” Coach Jeff Hood said. “There are no trophies for eight holes, and we must figure out how to finish tight matches.

“Hopefully, we can battle back in our remaining WBL matches (all at home) and take another crack at the in the tourney,” Coach Hood added.
