Richard F. “Dick” Dunlap of Van Wert died at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born March 25, 1923, in Jackson Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Emmett and Alta (Kohn) Dunlap. On June 22, 1947, he married Irene (Sealscott) Dunlap, who preceded him in death on January 14, 1986.

Mr. Dunlap was a lifetime farmer, a salesman for Montgomery Ward and F&S Floor Covering, a Jackson Township clerk and a former Van Wert County commissioner.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Marine Corps. He was a life member of Zion Christian Union Church in Grover Hill and was treasurer for the church for many years. He also loved Lincolnview sports and was a scorekeeper for away games for the basketball team for many years. He was also transportation chairman for the Van Wert County Chapter of the American Red Cross for many years, a life member of American Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both in Van Wert, and was a member of the Middle Point Lions Club.

Survivors include two children, Vickie (Michael) Woodruff of Van Wert and Susan (David) Bagley of Antwerp; a brother, the Rev. Howard (Ruth) Dunlap of Lake Worth, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jamie (David) Bradford, Traci (Ed) Carter, and Tyson (Leslie) Bailey, all of Van Wert, and Trisha (Jim) Fuller, Ryan (Kayla) Bagley and Ashley (Calvin) Bissell, all of Antwerp; three stepgrandchildren, Michael Woodruff, Melissa (Nic) Clementz and Heather (Steve) Boroff; 13 great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

A brother, Berl Dunlap, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Mark McKay officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery near Middle Point.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, September 16, at the funeral home.
