Verlon E. Moody

Verlon E. “Red” Moody, 79, of Ohio City, died at 11 p.m. Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Hearth & Home in Van Wert.

He was born May 7, 1931, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., the son of the late Henry Clay and Versie Grace (Dailey) Moody. On April 6, 1973, he married Mary L. (Williams) Moody, who survives in Ohio City.

Other survivors include four daughters, Brenda (Charles) Sharrow of Ohio City, Joyce (Daniel) Satarski of Northville, Mich., and Betty (Richard) Zmierczak and Beverly French, both of Bellevue, Mich.; a stepson, William Appel of Michigan; three brothers, Albert (Bertha) Moody and Jimmy (Jeannie) Moody, both of Indianapolis, Ind., and John Howard (Val) Moody of Defiance; a sister, Thelma (Fred) Hanks of North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Shirley Moody of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A stepson, Ralph Appel; two brothers, Loyd D. Moody and J.W. Moody, and a sister, Faye Kuncke, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 17, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Steven G. Waterman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Calling hours are one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: American Cancer Society or a charity of donor’s choice.
