PAULDING — The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center has completed the relocation of its Van Wert office to Thomas Edison Center, according to Superintendent Brian Gerber.

Gerber gave a report on the changeover to the WBESC Governing Board and thanked all those involved in making the transition a smooth one, especially Carol Williman, Matt Krites, Jody Dunham and Thomas Edison Superintendent Jim Stripe for working together on the move.

“Change is difficult for everybody; the only constant thing in education is change,” Gerber said, while thanking WBESC employees for being “reasonable, flexible and cooperative” during the changeover.

“We have fantastic employees who work for the Western Buckeye ESC and we appreciate the positive attitudes they have demonstrated with this move,” Gerber added.

Dates and hours of operation of the Van Wert operation will remain the same during the 2011-2012 school year.

Gerber also updated board members on the two county inservice day held recently on new and revised standards. Participating schools included Antwerp Local, Crestview Local, Lincolnview Local, Paulding Exempted Village and Wayne Trace Local districts.

Gerber thanked Pat Ross, superintendent of Paulding Exempted Village Schools, for hosting the inservice attended by 470 educators.

“A lot of work and organizational pieces took place in creating this inservice for five school districts and 470 educators,” Gerber noted. “We sincerely appreciate all those people who worked in a collaborative manner to make this inservice meaningful for our area educators.”

Also during the meeting, the WBESC board accepted the resignation of Helyn Zartman as a paraprofessional, effective December 20, for retirement purposes, and also approved Harry Florence as a substitute noncertified special needs aide for the 2011-2012 school year on an as-needed basis.

The resignation of Northwest Ohio Area Computer Services Cooperative employee Denise McDaniel was also approved, effective September 16., while a number of other NOACSC items were also approved by the WBESC board, including a supplemental contract for Terri Shutt for INFOhio Central assistance.

The next regular WBESC Governing Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at the Thomas Edison building in Van Wert.
