SWCD sets special election for supervisor
The Van Wert Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a special election for District Board of Supervisors in conjunction with the district’s 62nd annual meeting on Tuesday, November 15. One board member will be elected to a three-year term of office.
County residents and landowners have three options for casting a ballot:
- Call or visit the SWCD office, 419.238.9591, extension 101, or at 1185 Professional Drive in Van Wert to request an absentee ballot until November 8,
- Cast a ballot at the district office through the close of business on November 14, or
- Cast a ballot at the annual meeting on November 15 at Vantage Career Center.
Candidates in this year’s special election are Dave Jones and David Kemler.
Dave Jones and wife Rose reside in Union Township. He has operated a drainage business for the past 20 years. They are members of Grace Bible Church. Jones is a member of Chapter G of Indiana Goldwing Road Riders Association and Van Wert County Farm Bureau. He has been a board member of the Van Wert SWCD since 2009.
David Kemler and wife Marla reside in Hoaglin Township. They have two sons, Ethan and Zavier. He farms with his father. The Kemlers attend Harvest Field Church in Scott. Kemler is a member of Farm Bureau.
Van Wert SWCD, established in 1949, is a legal subdivision of state government that provides natural resource management assistance to county landowners and other units of local government. The district is funded by the Van Wert County Board of Commissioners, and county funds are supplemented by funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The district is governed by a five-member board of county residents. Board members serve staggered three-year terms.
