Joanne L. McCoy

Joanne L. McCoy, 87, of Van Wert, died at 10:05 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011, at her residence after an extended illness.

She was born August 31, 1924, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Glenn L. and Cora (Wollet) Adams. On August 30, 1942, she married Jesse G. McCoy, who preceded her in death on February 28, 2000, after 57 years of marriage.

Mrs. McCoy retired as restaurant manager at Willow Bend Country Club in Van Wert after 15 years of service. She had also worked at Balyeat’s Restaurant in Van Wert for 25 years and for a number of years at the Holiday Inn in Van Wert. She was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries in Van Wert. She was a 1942 graduate of Hoaglin-Jackson High School and was an avid basketball player in high school. She also loved watching Ohio State basketball and football games. She attended Trinity Friends Church in Van Wert.

Survivors include four children, Trudy (Tom) Webster, Robbin (Doug) Benner, Denise (Frank) Scott and G. Travis McCoy, all of Van Wert; a sister, Rosemarie Simpson of Charlotte Harbor, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Wendell B., Glenwood and Rudy Z. Adams; and a sister, Evelyn Etter, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, at the funeral home.
