Local runners do well at state CC meet

HEBRON – Van Wert’s boys’ cross country team finished seventh and two individual runners earned All-Ohio honors in the Division II State Cross Country Championship held at National Trail Raceway on Saturday.

Junior Jared Fleming finished 10th in a time of 16:14 in the race to earn first team All-Ohio honors, while Cougar freshman Connor Holliday was 25th (16:45) for second team All-Ohio honors. Other Van Wert runners and their finish included junior Kase Schalois (35th, 16:52), seniors Nathan Stevens (91st, 17:38) and Luke Brubaker (104th, 17:37), and freshmen Nick Keber (107th, 17:50) and Connor Shaffer (125th, 18:11).

Andi Foster, a sophomore and the only Van Wert girl who qualified for state, finished 71st in the Division II race in a time of 20:16.

Among other area runners who competed in the state cross country meet, Crestview freshman Mycah Grandstaff did well in the Division III race, finishing 55th in a time of 17:04.

Parkway junior Cameron Strunk also did well, finishing 33rd in the Division III race in a time of 16:44 (click here for more cross country photos by Monica Campbell).
