Local Art/Local Culture

By Hope Wallace

Examples of art for sale -- examples by David Schumm of Bryan, Jen Schallois of Chicago, Ken Miller of Rockford, Jeff Crabill of Antwerp and William John of Lima

Our second of many Tuesday night ArtNights is taking place tonight. Anyone who wants to come to the art center to draw, paint, sculpt or work with ceramics is invited. You don’t have to be an artist to enjoy making stuff. (That’s why we’re here!) Instructors will be on hand to answer your questions or to offer suggestion about technique, subject, color or other processes. Bring your art supplies, a friend and your ideas. If you like to work with ceramics, a free-will donation will be accepted to offset cost of the materials. ArtNight happens every Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. with some downtime over the holidays. It is open to anyone 18 and over unless accompanied by an adult.

This Saturday, November 12, our 22nd Annual Creative Art Sale & Exhibit opens! The opening wine and cheese reception runs from 6-8 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. Art awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Mike Klutka and Tony Wilkinson will be serenading us with their acoustic guitars and velvet voices. Gourmet cheese tastings will be conducted by Canal Junction Cheese, Defiance. The cheese is made on their beautiful farm from the milk of grass-fed cows. We will have several different wines available that appeal to all palates.

Just so we don’t thoughtlessly abandon our sweet tooth, Travis Tribolet will be providing chocolate bon-bons and petit fours. This sale is an excellent venue for holiday shoppers to find a unique gift for those they love and/or the difficult to buy for. Art can appreciate in value and many of the prices are surprisingly reasonable and geared for every budget.

Join us for an evening of warm friendship, food, spirit, and music on November 12. Please support your local artists who bring beauty to our corner of the world and opt to shop the relaxed atmosphere of our galleries this season through December 16.
