VW wrestlers compete at Fairborn meet

FAIRBORN – The Van Wert High School wrestling team completed in a dual-team tournament at the Baker Middle School in Fairborn this past Saturday and the Cougar grapplers were able to win three of the five duals. There were no individual placing at the tournament since it was a team formatted event.

Several of the wrestlers had very successful days helping the team along the way. In the first dual contest, Van Wert was defeated by Middletown 56-18, while the Cougars won 44-23 in the next match against Trotwood Madison.

After a bye round, the Cougars were matched against the “B” team made up of extra wrestlers from all the teams and came out with a 47-21 team victory.

The Cougars had another break, then faced Dayton Wayne and lost by a score of 51-27.

The last match of the day proved to be the closest, but Van Wert came out on top, winning 42-39 against Troy.
