Monica F. Richey

Monica F. Richey, 62, of Van Wert, passed away peacefully with family after a two-year battle with breast cancer.

Born on June 2, 1949, to the late Romy and Mary (Flaherty) Schaadt, she was a graduate of Lincolnview High School in 1967. On January 6, 1968, she married Gerald Richey, who survives in Van Wert.

Monica was an active member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and a school of religion teacher for 25 years. She is most widely known and loved as a Lincolnview school bus driver for over 37 years.

Monica was passionate about caring for her grandchildren and family, and loved driving her school bus. She is loved and will be missed by many.

In addition to her husband, survivors include six children, Bridget Richey and Sheridan Richey, both of Columbus, Jared (Cindy) Richey of Hilliard, Adam Richey of Antwerp, Patrick Richey and Molly (Trevor) Berryman, both of Middle Point; nine grandchildren, Nicolas, Abigail, Brian, Catlyn, Hanna, Grace, Zachary, Holly and Mylie; and six siblings, Joan Blankemeyer of Van Wert, Rex (Alice) Schaadt of Middle Point, Bernie (Kathy) Schaadt of Middle Point, Marcia (Leroy) Kill of Venedocia, Valeria (William) Teman of Delphos, and Kent (Glenda) Schaadt of Van Wert.

A brother, John Schaadt; and a niece, Celeste Blankemeyer, also preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, with Father Stanley Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Friday, November 25, a Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Monica’s name to the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center, c/o Community Health Professionals, 1159 Westwood Drive, Van Wert, OH 45891.
