Thefts from veterans’ graves probed

The Van Wert Police Department is seeking information on the theft of brass flag holders from veterans’ graves at Woodland Cemetery.

Police are investigating reports from Saturday that possibly as many as three dozen flag holders were taken from beside veterans’ tombstones at the cemetery.

Those making the report also found approximately a dozen flag holders and several brass vases cached near a gravestone in the cemetery, possibly by someone planning to come back later and get them.

Police are asking that anyone who has information about the thefts call the department at 419.238.2462.
