WT girls get win over Lincolnview Lancers

HAVILAND — A good third-quarter offensive performance was a key to Wayne Trace’s 70-64 non-conference girls’ basketball win over the Lincolnview Lady Lancers on Monday.

The Lady Raiders led after one quarter, 19-14, but Lincolnview outscored Wayne Trace 20-15 in the second period to tie the game at 34-all at the half.

The Raiders came out shooting in the second half, outpointing Lincolnview 21-14 to go up by seven points, 55-48, heading into the final stanza. The Lady Lancers edged Wayne Trace in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the third-quarter deficit.

Lincolnview had four players in double figure, led by Claire Dye’s 17 points. Carley Springer added 15 points, Julie Thatcher scored 13 and Katie Dye had 10 points on the night. Wayne Trace had three players in double figures. They included Sarah Feasby, with 19 points; Krystal Wannemacher with 15 counters; and Lauren Speice, who scored 12 for the Lady Raiders.

A key to the Raiders’ win was their performance at the free-throw line. Wayne Trace was 20 of 24 at the charity stripe (83.3 percent), while the Lancers made 12 of 16 free throw attempts (75 percent).

With the win, the Raiders are now 3-3 overall, while Lincolnview is also 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in Northwest Conference play.

The junior varsity game also went to Wayne Trace, 26-22. The Lancer JVs are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NWC.

Lincolnview will next host Columbus Grove in a league game on Thursday, December 22, starting at 6 p.m.
